Cristina Arias (ah-ree-uhs) is a graduate of CEP with a minor in Urban Design and Planning. Last summer, Cristina took part in the study abroad program: Sustainable Urban Mobility in the UK, Netherlands, and Denmark. The main focus was to bring back recommendations for the Seattle Department of Transportation for multi-modal streets by studying culture, urban design, and policy. Reflecting on her trip, she said, “biking in Amsterdam was one of the best moments in my life”. She loves that CEP gives her the flexibility to tailor her education and take classes that align with her interests.
This year, Cristina created on a zine for her senior project featuring people experiencing homelessness. For the project, she got to know the local community to understand how to change perspectives through art and community events. She made a compilation of short stories and photography that she shared with the community. Outside of class, Cristina worked with the Tent City Collective club on campus to make Tent City 3’s stay as comfortable as possible. She also helped organize panel events that created opportunities to engage in crucial dialogue and to hear the stories of Seattleites experiencing homelessness. When she’s not with her CEP family she enjoys yoga, running, dancing and most of all, dreaming. Today, Cristina is working for one the bike share companies and dreaming of public space. |
